Salaam is one of the more puzzling one-season wonders in NFL history. He won the Heisman at Colorado and then gained 1,074 yards on the ground during his rookie season with the Bears, becoming the youngest player in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards. But then everything fell apart.

His propensity for fumbling was always a problem. Salaam’s persistent substance abuse issues use didn’t help either, nor did a series of injuries. After his rookie season, Salaam totaled just 610 rushing yards the rest of his career. Sadly, he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 2016.
