6. Los Angeles Chargers – Original Pick: Justin Herbert
Justin Herbert was a no-brainer for Los Angeles once Tua Tagovailoa was off the board. There was an obvious hole to fill at QB after the departure of Philip Rivers and Herbert was the clear selection for the Chargers at #6.
To say Herbert worked out for the Chargers would be an understatement. Herbert started 15 games in 2020, finishing with 4,336 passing yards, a rookie-record 31 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions. He also rushed for 234 yards and five more scores. Herbert is big, confident, strong and smart, the perfect makeup for a franchise QB. If he can continue to improve, he is going to have quite the career.
New Pick: Tua Tagovailoa
With Herbert off the board in this re-draft, the Chargers go with Tua Tagovailoa. The need at QB is obvious, so this one comes down to Tua vs. Jalen Hurts. While Hurts showed promise, it’s too early to write off Tua.
As mentioned earlier, if Tua can find and channel the confidence and playmaking ability that we’ve all seen throughout his Alabama career, the sky’s the limit for him.
