In the 1979 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals had two selections among the top 12 picks… and manage to botch them both, taking two forgettable players in quarterback Jack Thompson at #3 overall and running back Charles Alexander at #12 overall. Alexander had a few serviceable years in Cincinnati, but Thompson turned out to be a huge bust.

Could Have Drafted: Dan Hampton
To make matters worse, one pick after the selection of Thompson was four-time ALl-Pro defensive tackle Dan Hampton, an integral member of the vaunted “46 Defense” of the Chicago Bears under the legendary Buddy Ryan.
