Kris Dunn
If you want evidence for why NBA teams rightfully draft young players with untapped athletic upside instead of proven upperclassmen who produced in college, look no further than Kris Dunn. The lockdown defender at Providence University came to the NBA via the 5th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft (by the Minnesota Timberwolves), and after dealing with an injury during the early part of his career, we found out he couldn’t play a lick of offense.
His rookie season in Minnesota, in which he shot under 38% from the floor and under 29% from three, was so bad that the Timberwolves were content to trade him after just one year. While someone like Buddy Heild might not have been quite the same defender, he would’ve been a light-years better option to take here.
