Danny Ferry was the co-National Player of the Year in college, becoming the first player in ACC history to collect more than 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 500 assists in his collegiate career. As the 1989 NBA Draft approached, he made it clear that he didn’t want to play for the Los Angeles Clippers, who had the 2nd overall pick in that draft.

The Clippers selected him anyway, and Ferry spent a year playing overseas in Italy, before signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Clippers could have instead taken Glen Rice, the Big 10 Player of the Year who helped lead the University of Michigan to a National Championship.
