2002 – Jason Williams (Duke)
Jay Williams was another player that fans all over the country loved to hate, because he continued to keep Duke at the top of the national rankings. The two-time first-team All-American was a member of Duke’s National Championship team in 2001, and was named college basketball’s player of the year in 2002. Williams was drafted 2nd overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 2002 NBA Draft, and during the offseason after his rookie year, infamously crashed his motorcycle, severing the main nerve in his leg, fracturing his pelvis, and dislocated three ligaments in his left knee, including his ACL. He wasn’t anything remotely close to the same player after that accident. After numerous failures at resurrecting his pro basketball career, Williams now works for ESPN as a college basketball analyst.
