
Think back to your childhood. The Christmas commercials started airing on TV and there it was, that toy you wanted more than anything this year. You wrote letters to Santa, you sat on the big guy’s lap, or maybe you just asked your parents for it.
It’s easy to think about Christmas on a small scale. We give gifts for friends, family and especially our children. But, Christmas is a big business. If you are a toy company you want your toy to be the “it” toy of the season, and let’s be clear every season has an “it” toy.
Here we’ve got a list of those “it” toys of the past 35 or so years. For some of you, this will be a trip down memory lane, with toys like Tamagotchis or Teddy Ruxpin. For others of you, you’ll have memories of buying these toys for your children.
Either way, Christmas is a season that is warm and cozy because of the feelings of nostalgia it brings up. So, grab your eggnog, stoke the fire and click through this blast of nostalgia.
1983: Cabbage Patch Kids

If you woke up on Christmas morning 1983 and Santa Claus hadn’t put a Cabbage Patch doll under your tree, you were probably heartbroken. However, if you were able to get that prized toy you were singing that famous song with pride as you clutched your doll.
Customers often waited hours to get their hands on these little dolls. These were so sought after because they each came with their name, and individual “certificate of adoption.” Do you remember the name of your Cabbage Patch kid?
