2006 — Maurice Ager

Fine, technically Maurice Ager was the last Spartan pick before Adreian Payne, since he went pick 28, three spots after Shannon Brown. I have to be honest: I had zero recollection of Ager being drafted in the first round, or at all really. Ager was mostly a role player at Michigan State but he was truly awful in the NBA.

He scored only 169 points over five seasons in the NBA and finished with an atrocious career offensive rating of 79. That’s… punches numbers angrily into calculator… not great, Bob. Ager somehow played (admittedly limited) playoff minutes for the 67–15 1-seed Dallas Mavericks in 2017, and that’s about the best thing you can say for his NBA career.
