God Shammgod
Very few college players have electrified college basketball the way God Shammgod did in the late 90’s. You have probably heard the name Shammgod and seen a “Shammgod crossover” more times than you have ever seen an actual play by the man who taught Kobe Bryant how to improve his crossover. That man, or should I say God, is God Shammgod. The point guard with the almighty name led 10th-seeded Providence to the 1997 Elite Eight after downing Duke in the second round.
Shammgod was selected by the Wizards with the 45th pick in the 1997 NBA draft. Unfortunately his NBA career only lasted for 20 games. For the next decade, he played overseas, mostly in China. After his playing career, Shammgod returned to Providence to serve as an assistant coach in 2012. He is now the Dallas Mavericks’ assistant of player development.
