It’s been said that humor is often in the eye of the beholder, which means that the idea of “best comedy movies” is something that can be very subjective to each individual person. Yet, the truly great comedy movies are ones that we can all agree upon as being humorous and entertaining at a near-universal level.
In that vein, this is our list of what we deem to be the 20 comedy films that are the best of all time, and the 10 that definitely don’t deserve the accolades they receive.
Old School – Released 2003
When it comes to “The Frat Pack” movies, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn are basically the equivalent of putting Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior together on a tag-team: they’re effectively unbeatable. So, while Luke Wilson might’ve been the start of “Old School,” it was that duo who stole the show.
Combined with the backdrop of college and fraternity life, and exacerbated by a wonderfully detestable villain in the character portrayed by Jeremy Piven, Old School is one of the best movies in the aforementioned ‘Frat Pack’ genre. And that’s not even mentioning the whole cast of cameo appearances, who make the movie even better.
