Coming out of Miami University of Ohio in 2004, Ben Roethlisberger was a massive prospect at 6’5 and 240lbs, who could run around the field like a big wide receiver and launch the ball a country mile. But as Roethlisberger got older, and he relied less and less on his athleticism, his listed weight of 240lbs became more and more generous; it’s very likely he was playing at a weight as much as 25lbs more than that.
The annual offseason storyline around “Big Ben” was whether he would come into camp in shape, or whether he’d spend training camp and the early part of the season trying to work himself back into football shape.
