Despite struggling with injuries early on in his career, wide receiver Charlie Joiner eventually become a valued member of the Cincinnati Bengals offense in the mid-70’s. But the Bengals clearly didn’t see that potential, as they traded him away to the San Diego Chargers (at Walsh’s recommendation, as the coach had moved on there as well). Joiner became a two-time All-Pro and eventually was inducted into the Hall of Fame, thanks to his work in San Diego.
