Smith is undoubtedly the best wide receiver in Carolina history. There should be no doubt about that. But while he had a few good years with Cam Newton late in his career, he spent more time catching balls from Jake Delhomme, who people forget was a decent quarterback for a few years.

Smith had his breakout season in 2003, which was Delhomme’s first year in Carolina when he guided the Panthers to the Super Bowl. Two years later, Smith had the best season of his career, amassing over 1,500 yards and 12 touchdowns, all coming from Delhomme, as that tandem led the Panthers on another deep playoff run.
