New York Jets: Joe Namath, Don Maynard
You didn’t think Broadway Joe did it all on his own, did you? Well, he didn’t. Namath had plenty of help from his receivers, and no one provided more assistant than Don Maynard, as the two were one of the most dynamic duos of the late 1960’s.
When Namath got to the Jets in 1965, Maynard was already an established wide receiver. He helped Namath get settled and Broadway Joe helped him take his game to the next level. Three of Maynard’s four seasons with over 1,200 yards receiving came with Namath at quarterback. In fact, during Namath’s first five seasons, he caught 35 touchdown passes, forging an immediate connection with the young quarterback.
