Elton Brand was the anchor for what many people consider to be one of the most talent-rich teams in Duke history (the 1998-1999 team that featured him, William Avery, and Corey Maggette), that ended up losing to the University of Connecticut in the 1999 NCAA Tournament finals. The trio became the first three Blue Devils to ever leave school without competing their four years of college eligibility

in Durham. Brand went on to a 17-year NBA career, averaging 16 points and just under 9 rebounds over the course of said career, and even being named to an All-NBA Second Team in 2006.
