4. Marvin Harrison
Forget about flash, forget about ego, and forget about making it about yourself. Harrison didn’t stand for any of those things. He was all about being productive, being consistent, and being a team player. He may not have been an elite athlete, but he was smart and smooth, always putting himself in the right position to make a play and doing what needed to be done to make it happen. Many will claim that he was largely a beneficiary of playing with Peyton Manning for most of his career, but Perhaps Harrison was the perfect receiver for Manning to have all of those years.
After a record-setting college career at Syracuse, Harrison made a seamless transition to the NFL, amassing over 800 yards receiving and eight touchdowns as a rookie, posting impressive numbers even before Manning joined the Colts. Of course, Manning and Harrison fit one another like a glove. From 1999 to 2002, Harrison had four straight seasons with over 1,400 yards receiving. He also set the all-time single-season record with 143 catches in 2002, a record that still stands. It wasn’t until injuries started to catch up with him in 2007 that there was any drop in Harrison’s performance. From 1999 to 2006, there was no better receiver in football, and Harrison and the Colts managed to close out that era with a Super Bowl win.
