One of the key cogs in the last great Crimson Tide team prior to the Nick Saban era, running back Shaun Alexander was a First-Team All-American running back at the University of Alabama in 1999, famously helping the Tide overcome a three-touchdown deficit to beat Auburn in the 1999 Iron Bowl, and then defeat Florida in the SEC Championship that year.

The Seattle Seahawks selected Alexander with their first of their two first-round picks in the 2000 NFL Draft, and after a slow rookie year, the team watched Alexander run for at least 1,175 yards in each of the next five seasons. In 2005, Alexander ran for 1,880 yards, and set the single-season rushing touchdown record with 27 touchdowns.
