This one’s tricky. If you’re giving the peace sign with your palm out, it’s all groovy man. However, if you’re in a British country or former colony and you turn that palm backwards facing you, you’re giving “The Forks.”

While it might sound like a fun and jovial gesture to give to a friend, it’s not. This two-fingered salute dates back to the early 1400’s, when soldiers would flash this sign at English archers during the Hundred Years War. So if you’re insulting someone this way, at least you’ll know you aren’t the first.
