Americans are famous for our ability to beat around the bush, or to try to soften what we are trying to say so as to not hurt the feelings of the people we are talking to. We would consider it rude to be so direct as to say “No, we don’t want that.”

In some foreign countries, we would be giving a very different and complicated message because most people are used to more direct and harsh critiques. They tell it like it is. That way there is no confusion about what it being said.
