Here in the United States, giving a thumbs up is a fairly common thing to do or see. It’s a casual signal for approval of something. No one would think twice about being on the receiving end of a thumbs up.

Well, in the Middle East, Latin America, Western Africa, Russia, and Greece, you may as well be flipping someone the bird when you give them the thumbs up sign. It’s not a good sign at all to give someone. So, unless you’re trying to offend, maybe stick to using your words.
