It’s fairly common in the United States to leave your shoes on when visiting someones home. It’s just easier and creates less anxiety about reactions socks and/or bare feet out in public. The usual exceptions to this are if the homeowner has new carpet or a baby who spends their time on the floor.

Not so in some Asian and Caribbean countries, where it’s expected that you’ll take off your shoes and put them in the designated spot. However, this doesn’t mean you should take your socks off, which can be offensive in some of those same cultures.
