When Farrokh Bulsara was born in Zanzibar in 1946, there’s no way his parents could have guessed he would grow up to become Freddie Mercury, one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music. Mercury became known for his flamboyant stage personality and his incredible four-octave vocal range.

Mercury wasn’t just a talented singer though, as he wrote many of Queen’s hit songs including, Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody to Love, and We Are the Champions. As a member of Queen, Mercury was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the UK Music Hall of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
