This trade took place before 2000, but it’s too bad to ignore. The Chargers, so desperate for a quarterback, that they traded Eric Metcalf, a first-round pick, and a second-round pick to the Cardinals just to move up one spot and take Leaf. The rest is an unmitigated disaster. Leaf threw two touchdowns and 15 interceptions as a rookie, completing just 45% of his passes. He then missed the following season because of a shoulder injury. He returned for his third pro season in 2000 and was only marginally better, tossing 11 touchdowns to 18 interceptions. Leaf played a few games with the Cowboys in 2001, but that was it for Leaf, who will forever be remembered as one of the biggest busts in NFL history.
