Isiah Thomas and the “Bad Boy” Detroit Pistons of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s took particular pride in developing what became known as “the Jordan rules” — comprised of forcing Jordan to drive into the paint, and then merciless pounding on him with hard fouls and cheap shots.

Eventually, when Jordan and his Chicago Bulls broke through the Pistons’ stranglehold of the Eastern Conference, a miffed Thomas refused to shake hands with Jordan in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Jordan never forgot that slight. While it’s never been proven, most people will tell you that the one condition Jordan had for joining the famed 1992 Dream Team was that Thomas would not be on the roster.
