The Los Angeles Rams and Trumaine Johnson couldn’t agree on a long-term contract extension this past offseason, meaning Johnson will be playing under the franchise tag, causing his salary to jump to nearly $17 million this season. While there’s been nothing but positivity and praise for Johnson this year, the current coaching regime of Sean McVay and Wade Phillips wasn’t around when the team first acquired Johnson, and may not feel any overwhelming loyalty in trying to bring him back after this year if his contract demands are too high. The Rams still have plenty of holes they need to fill, without having to devote so much money to one cornerback.
