Late Bloomer #9: Rich Gannon
Gannon spent five seasons with the Vikings, one with the Redskins, and four with the Chiefs, and in that decade he was nothing special whatsoever. But when he joined the Raiders in 1999, already in his mid-30s, something finally clicked for him. With a little help from Jon Gruden’s West Coast offense, Gannon had four amazing seasons in Oakland from 1999 to 2002, throwing for over 3,000 yards and at least 24 touchdowns in all four seasons.
The culmination of that success came in 2002 when he won league MVP. A shoulder injury the following year effectively ended his career, but not before that amazing run with the Raiders.
