John Rocker

In the late 1990’s, John Rocker appeared to be a promising young closer for the Atlanta Braves. Except, he could never learn to keep his mouth shut, which ultimately derailed his career. After getting the starting closer job with the Braves, Rocker was demoted in June of 2000 after threatening a reporter. Of course, that was just the “appetizer,” as far as things to come. Nobody will ever forget the comments he made to a reporter for Sports Illustrated magazine, making disparaging remarks about baseball fans in New York. He derided people of different ethnic backgrounds, and made homophobic comments as well. From then onwards, he was basically a pariah in the league… and rightfully so.
