Hall of Fame second baseman Roberto Alomar won more Gold Gloves (10) than any other second baseman in the history of Major League Baseball. He’ll easily go down as one of the greatest players at his position in the illustrious history of the game. But, when historians look back on his career, there will forever be the “black mark” of when he got into an argument with umpire John Hirschbeck, and spat in Hirschbeck’s face during the process. To make matters worse, Alomar then accused Hirschbeck of being “bitter” because one of his sons died of ALD (a disease linked to chromosomes), and another son was diagnosed with it. Those comments incensed Hirschbeck so much that he had to be physically restrained from confronting Alomar in the players’ locker room.
