Robert Griffin III went from a mostly-unheralded quarterback at Baylor University to a national phenomenon with his own catchy nickname in “RG3,” culminating in him winning the Heisman Trophy in 2011. And after being taken with the second overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Griffin had a spectacular rookie season with the Washington Redskins, winning the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

But after a major knee injury at the end of his rookie year, and clashes with both Mike Shanahan and Jay Gruden, the Redskins released Griffin after not playing him in the 2015 season, and he was out of the NFL for all of the 2017 season before landing as a backup with the Baltimore Ravens in 2018.
