Originally showing up to the University of Southern California as a defensive back, Trojans head coach John Robinson converted Marcus Allen into a running back. Needless to say, that was a wise choice. Allen ran for over 3,900 total yards between his junior and senior season, winning the Heisman Trophy during the latter.

The then-Los Angeles Raiders took Allen with the 10th overall pick in the 1982 draft, and Allen began paying dividends in just his second season, running for a then-NFL record 191 yards in Super Bowl XVIII, and winning the MVP award. When he retired, he was the NFL’s all-time leader in combined rushing and receiving yards.
