After being selected with the first overall pick in the 1969 NFL Draft, only a few months after winning the Heisman Trophy (in 1968), Simpson became the first NFL player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season, and won the NFL MVP that same year (1973). After finishing with 11,236 career rushing yards, which remains 21st all time, Simpson was named to the NFL Hall of Fame.
