Watching Barry Sanders carry the football was literally like watching poetry in motion. No running back could take your breath away anytime he touched the football like Sanders. He set a bevy of records at Oklahoma State University, along the way to winning the 1988 Heisman Trophy.

And after the Lions took Sanders with the 3rd overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft, he became a star the day he stepped foot in the NFL. Sanders ran for over 1,100 yards every single season of his career, led the NFL in rushing four times, and was named the NFL MVP in 1997. While Sanders shocked everyone when he prematurely retired after 1998, he is still considered to be one of the five greatest running backs of all time.
