When former St. Louis Rams’ head coach Rich Brooks tried to bring a pass-oriented approach to his team, he asked running back Jerome Bettis — who averaged 1,227 rushing yards per season before Brooks arrived — whether Bettis would prefer to play fullback for the Rams, or be traded elsewhere. Obviously, Bettis chose the latter.

“The Battering Ram” left St. Louis and became “The Bus” in Pittsburgh, after he was traded there in exchange for a 3rd round pick. Bettis would go on to run for more than 1,000 yards in each of his first six seasons in Pittsburgh, and eventually cap off his NFL career with a Super Bowl win at the end of the 2005 season.
