After enduring a miserable beating during his (more miserable) rookie season in 1990, Aikman would fend off head coach Jimmy Johnson’s best attempts to replace him, earning the job — and Johnson’s respect — for good.
And while he chafed under the laissez faire coaching of Barry Switzer, Aikman remained with the Cowboys for the entirety of his NFL career before retiring in 2000.
