3. Rafael dos Anjos
McGregor was set to face Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC Lightweight Championship in early March of 2016, in an attempt to become the first UFC dual-weight champion. And, of course, in the pre-fight press conference, McGregor initiated quite the incendiary verbal firefight. He took direct shots at dos Anjos’ Brazilian heritage, stating: “I am going to send you back to our Brazilian TV partners, Globo and Combat Sport, and have you answer to the Brazilian people why we have to book you a hotel in your own home country, why your kids names are Bob and Donald – why are you raising American children?” To his credit, dos Anjos didn’t take the bait at the event, but he did air his feelings about McGregor’s comments, once again alluding to him being a sellout showman: “I knew he was going to try to use all his weapons to make me get mad but I kept calm. He has no respect, he doesn’t know the word, it doesn’t exist for him. He’s going to get worse, he’s going to do everything to promote himself, do everything for money.”
