2016: Brian Hoyer, Houston Texans
No matter how much he might tease you with the potential of becoming something more, at the end of the day, Brian Hoyer will always be Brian Hoyer. The Houston Texans took a chance on him in free agency prior to the start of the 2015 season, and benched him after the first game of the year. He got the job back after Ryan Mallet, whom he was originally benched for (how terrible does that sound in retrospect?), was injured, and went 4-4 over the remainder of the regular season. But, he saved his best “I’m Brian Hoyer” performance for the playoffs, going 15 of 34 for 136 yards and four interceptions in a 30-0 bloodbath loss at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs. The game was every bit as lopsided and pathetic as the score might indicate, thanks to Brian Hoyer being Brian Hoyer.
