Shane Battier – Duke (1997-2001)
Shane Battier is another NCAA basketball superstar to come out of Duke. And like other former Blue Devil players, it is easy to see his development and progression throughout his career. In Battier’s final season at Duke, he averaged 19.9 ppg and 7.3 rebounds. Both were career highs. His performances led the Blue Devils to the 2001 NCAA National Championship. Although it was his only NCAA title, it wouldn’t be the only basketball championship Battier would win.
He went on to play many successful seasons in the NBA. The 2001 NCAA Tournament also saw Battier voted as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Not only was Battier a great athlete, but he was a tremendous student. The Blue Devils’ forward was selected to two Academic All-American teams. G: 146 Pts: 13.6 Reb: 6.1
