David Ortiz might simultaneously be the most hated and feared hitter in New York history. Decades, if not centuries will go by, and we’ll still be talking about how his walk-off two-run home run against Paul Quantrill in the 12th inning of Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS, which spurred the greatest comeback in sports history. In Game 5, he hit the game-winning walk-off single off of Esteban Loaiza in the 14th inning. His .387 with 3 home runs and 11 RBI in the series earned him MVP honors, and he followed that up by hitting .308 in the ensuing World series, with 1 home run and 4 RBI, as his Boston Red Sox swept the St. Louis Cardinals to end the Curse of the Bambino.
