5. Adam Vinatieri’s 48-yard game-winning field goal in Super Bowl XXXVI
The Rams came into the game as 14-point favorites, and with all their talent and firepower, a Super Bowl victory seemed to be nothing more than a foregone conclusion. But the Patriots defense bullied the Rams offense for much of the game, and the two teams were tied 17-17 late in the fourth quarter. But, instead of merely trying to run the clock out and send the game into overtime, Brady began orchestrating what would be the game-winning drive, getting the ball down to the Rams 30-yard line with seven seconds left. After converting on one of the most memorable field goal attempts in history, when the Patriots beat the Raiders in the AFC Divisional Playoffs (in the infamous “tuck rule” game), Vinatieri wrote another chapter in his book of clutch kicks, hitting the game-winning 48 yard field goal.
