9. Wes Welker’s Drop in Super Bowl XLVI
With just under 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter, New England was nursing a 17-15 lead, and began a possession on their own eight-yard line. Brady and the Patriots drove the ball to the Giants 44-yard line, and on 2nd-and-11, wide receiver Wes Welker had gotten behind the Giants secondary. Brady delivered a pass to Welker that was, admittedly, a hair overthrown. The diving Welker still managed to get both hands on it, and it still looked like a catchable pass, but Welker just plain dropped it. The Patriots ended up having to punt on that drive, and the Giants scored the go-ahead touchdown on the ensuing drive. After the game, Giselle Bundchen, Tom Brady’s wife, was captured on video blasting Welker and the Patriots, saying “My husband can not f—— throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can’t believe they dropped the ball so many times.”
