Kyle Boller, Baltimore Ravens, 2003

Kyle Boller was one of our first cautionary stories for avoiding being seduced by big-armed quarterbacks with low percentages for passes completed in college. In four years at the University of California Berkley, Boller completed less than 48% of his passes during his college career. But NFL teams lost their mind over Boller’s arm strength, when he famously threw the ball threw the uprights while kneeling on the 50 yard line in a private, pre-draft workout.

After a combination of erratic (and — not surprisingly — inaccurate passing), along with recurring injuries, the Ravens eventually replaced Boller by trading for Steve McNair prior to the 2006 season.
