Larry Johnson looked like the NFL’s next superstar running back in an era when the league was pumping out a new 1,700-yard running back with 15+ touchdowns every couple of years. In 2006, Johnson carried the ball 416 times for 1,789 yards and 17 touchdowns. That incredible workload clearly took its toll on him, as he also was never really the same guy afterwards. In 2008, his 874 yards rushing in 12 games seemed like a respectable total, but the advanced analytics shows that he was the second-worst running back in the NFL with more than 150 carries. Johnson never again ran for more than 875 yards for the rest of his career.
