After becoming the third-fastest player in NFL history to reach 50 sacks (in only 58 games), recording five more sacks this past postseason, and winning the MVP award for Super Bowl 50, Von Miller held out for much of the offseason with the goal of obtaining a new contract from the Denver Broncos. In mid-July, the Broncos and Miller agreed to a six-year deal with $114.5 million, making him the highest paid defensive player in NFL history. In his first year of said deal, Miller will be earning a total of $25.1 million in total salary.
