Allen Iverson (Georgetown)

Allen Iverson became a national figure before he ever set foot on the court at Georgetown. While in high school, Iverson and a few of his friends were involved in an infamous altercation at a bowling alley in Virginia. After a controversial trial, Iverson was sentenced to 15 years in prison, but was pardoned by the Governor after serving only four months of his sentence. Aside from his early troubles off the court, Iverson stood out for his play on the court. Iverson wasn’t the typical star player from Georgetown. For starters, he was a shoot first “point guard” — instead of a classic center (alumni include Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, and Dikembe Mutombo). Iverson also had his fair share of critics, who disliked his “urban swag.”
