Małgorzata Dydek, known as Margo Dydek in the United States, holds the record for being the tallest professional female basketball player in the world. Standing 7’2, Dydek was the #1 overall pick in the 1998 WNBA Draft, selected by the Utah Starzz (who eventually became the San Antonio Silver Stars). While her WNBA career ended in 2008, she is still the all-time leader in blocks, with 323 over the course of her career. In 2011, Dydek suffered a severe heart attack that ultimately led to her death. What’s even more tragic was the fact that she was pregnant when suffering the heart attack, and her unborn child died as well.
