In the summer of 2014, the Sacramento Kings signed Gursimran “Sim” Bhullar, a 7’5 center born and raised in Canada, but of Indian descent. Bhullar became the first player of Indian descent to play in the NBA. Fellow Indian Vivek Ranadivé, the owner of the Kings, likely saw a marketing opportunity in signing Bhullar; but, that didn’t really materialize. Bhullar bounced around the development league for a couple of years, and now plays for the Dacin Tigers of the Taiwanese Super Basketball League (SBL).
