Kwame Brown, Wizards (2001)
It’s pretty safe to say that Michael Jordan’s résumé as a team executive isn’t anywhere near as impressive as his career accomplishments as a player. In his 14 years as a part owner of an NBA team, his entire draft record includes only one player who’s made an All Star game (Kemba Walker). But the crown jewel of his bad drafting has to be Kwame Brown, the #1 overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft. Brown simply wasn’t mature enough to become a professional basketball player right out of high school, and with Jordan’s decision to return to basketball as a member of the Washington Wizards, the team showed no patience in giving him the minutes he needed to develop.
Despite going on to have a 12-year NBA career, Brown is right up there with among the biggest draft busts of all time. The two players selected after Brown were Tyson Chandler and Pau Gasol, two All-Star centers who went on to win a combine three NBA titles.
