Despite being named an All-American as a sophomore at Arizona State University, Vontaze Burfict went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft because teams believe his playing style was way too reckless and dirty. Head coach Marvin Lewis of the Cincinnati Bengals had Burfict his personal reclamation project, turning him into one of the most relentless and feared hitters in the NFL. However, there have been several NFL players who have accused Burfict of playing dirty, either deliberately trying to injure opposing players, or delivering illegal shots to the head. In the 2017 preseason, Burfict was suspended for the first five games of the 2017 regular season because of a questionable hit he made on Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman.
