Tyler Ulis was not only a first team All-state selection coming out of high school in Illinois, but he was also a McDonald’s All-American. Yet his lack of height — standing only 5’10 — caused a lot of collegiate programs to pass on the opportunity to give him a scholarship. Head coach John Calipari of the University of Kentucky Wildcats was smart enough not to pass on Ulis, and was rewarded when Ulis became the SEC Player of the Year in 2016. He’s currently a member of the Phoenix Suns, who drafted him in the second round of the 2016 NBA Draft.
