76ers x Eagles
The interesting thing about this conceptual mashup of the jerseys of the Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Eagles is the fact that it’s already a throwback. The above jersey concept looks like something you would have seen back in the USFL days, as it was created using the new logo and colors that the 76ers introduced in the late 1990’s. But over the last few years, the 76ers have moved back to the more familiar red, white, and blue color scheme. So if they ever mocked up something with the new 76ers look, it should have quarterback Carson Wentz modeling this jersey, as opposed to free agent bust DeMarco Murray, who barely lasted one season in Philadelphia.
Bulls x Bears
This mashup would probably make the heads of Bill Swerski and the Chicago superfans explode. The Chicago Bears are well known for their navy blue and white jerseys with the iconic burnt orange “C” on the helmet. So having the monsters of the midway wearing the red, black, and white of the Chicago Bulls, which became world famous during Michael Jordan’s playing days, would be quite the change. Of course, if this jersey were to be reimagined for today’s purposes, it would probably feature someone like quarterback Mitch Trubisky, instead of wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey, who left Chicago as a free agent after the 2016 NFL season.
Timberwolves x Vikings
Even with the accents added to the team’s jersey and helmets since they arrived in the NFL 57 years ago, there’s something very elegant in the purple and white simplicity of the Minnesota Vikings’ uniform. But when you see the picture above, you have to be intrigued by what a potential NFL jersey would look like, if it were mashed up with the Minnesota Timberwolves logo and colors. Teddy Bridgewater, who suffered a gruesome knee injury prior to the 2016 NFL season, does a nice job showing what such a jersey would look like. The question is: will Bridgewater ever come back as Minnesota’s starting quarterback, or has Case Keenum taken his job for good?
Pelicans x Saints
For over the past half-century, the New Orleans Saints have had one of the most recognizable color combinations in the NFL, rocking the old gold, black, and white since the days of Archie Manning. But dare we say that this mashup combination with the jersey of the New Orleans Pelicans might actually be an upgrade? Quarterback Drew Brees does pull off that combination of red, blue, and gold rather well. The fastest player to hit 60,000 yards passing in NFL history, Brees is primed to have his eighth consecutive season with more than 4,400 yards passing.
Nets x Jets
We’d like to caption this mashup as “Gang Green gets Blacked Out.” It might be close to 15 miles between Metlife Stadium (home of the New York Jets) and the Barclays Center (home of the Brooklyn Nets), but these are two of Gotham’s teams that are going through their struggles. It’ll be interesting to see who would model future versions of this jersey, as Darrrelle Revis and the Jets parted ways after the 2016 season. Maybe next time, it’ll feature whoever the Jets select early in the 2018 NFL Draft?
Wizards x Redskins
Let’s just put it this way: don’t show this matchup to any longtime Washington, DC sports fan, unless you want them to swing their fist in your direction. Even with their perennially losing ways, the Washington Redskins are the most popular team in Washington, and the team’s burgundy and gold color scheme is beyond reproach. On top of that, most Washington fans don’t particularly love the current team name of the basketball team (the Wizards), and have been hoping for years that they’d change it back to the Bullets. And last, but certainly not least, Robert Griffin III — pictured above — burned every proverbial bridge in town on his way out of DC.
